Oct 30 2008

KURT A. SCHWINGHAMMER, PH.D.

Kurt A. Schwinghammer, Ph.D., is Assistant Vice President of Corporate Alliances at Fox Chase Cancer Center, where his responsibilities are to establish strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostic, and venture capital companies. The Office of Corporate Alliances also establishes the commercial potential of technologies discovered at Fox Chase, develops patenting and marketing strategies for each such technology, and actively markets and licenses those technologies to industry. The Office of Corporate Alliances is the primary point of contact for establishing industry-sponsored research agreements, for assisting entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies, and for generally forging close ties with industry. In his capacity as AVP of Corporate Alliances, Kurt also represents Fox Chase as a board observer of two Fox Chase start-up companies: Dynamis Therapeutics and Nexus Pharmaceuticals. Kurt was previously Deputy Managing Director, Technology Transfer and Director of Licensing at The University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Technology Transfer (CTT) where he managed the commercialization and licensing efforts of all Licensing and Marketing Directors, and where he worked closely with the Director of Startup Companies to determine which technologies could form the basis for new companies. For five years prior to joining CTT, Kurt was Director of the Department of Technology Transfer at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he managed the Offices of Corporate Alliances, Intellectual Property, and Technology Commercialization. After several years as a research scientist and research manager in industry, his segue into technology transfer was as Technology Acquisition Manager for American Cyanamid Company where he supported research, development, marketing and sales through identification and acquisition of technologies, leads and product opportunities that fit business objectives of the company. Additionally, he identified companies that were of corporate strategic interest and conducted diligence around their acquisition. Kurt has established and maintains long-term business relationships leading to product development collaborations including co-development and commercialization agreements for biological and pharmaceutical products, and technology license agreements that he negotiated have resulted in multiple millions of dollars in milestones, royalties, and product sales. Kurt was awarded a Ph.D. and M.S. in biological sciences from the University of Kentucky and a B.S. from Purdue University. He has received numerous awards for his research endeavors and for contributions to the companies in which he was employed. Kurt is named inventor on four US patents. He is an active member of the Association of University Technology Managers and the Licensing Executives Society.
